Micah, Jennifer, Karl and I were able to leave our kids with grandparents and take a trip...just us! It was so nice. Karl and I will celebrate our 10th anniversary this December...we celebrated in June. December seemed so far away. So, Jackson Hole was the place of choice. I am so glad we went. It was awesome!
Karl was frisked at the air port. American took us away on a Monday in June. Our plane into Jackson Hole was FULL. On the way over Karl, Jennifer and I set next to each other. Micah sat across from us with another young couple and a screaming baby. Poor baby...poor Micah. We arrived safely. Jackson Hole doesn't have a large airport. So, when you step off of the plane you step all the way down to the tar mat. When we arrived there was this HUGE archway made of antlers. I had my camera out and ready...to pause for 5 seconds to take a picture. Didn't happen. We were summoned to KEEP MOVING.
We arrived at 6:30pm and decided to get our car and find a place where we could eat and experience Jackson Hole. After asking around, we found a brick oven pizza joint. It was wonderful. Salads and pizza and the view....
was beautiful! We sat outside on the top deck and almost froze. The mountains were gorgeous.
Micah and Jennifer cuddling to keep warm. It was so nice. Chilly but beautiful. You can see there was quite a bit of snow left on the mountains. Which for late June is normal (just not that much snow). We hit Jackson Hole at the perfect time. They had been having weeks of cold, rainy days. We were kind of bummed. Monday night was chilly....but....
Tuesday morning we were back to our short sleeves and soaking up the sun around town. Our first animal we saw in Jackson Hole! The town is cute and just the right size.
Elk Fry and his bride
By Tuesday morning I am sure I had already said five or so times how I wanted to go back to the airport and sneak a picture of the archway made of antlers...but by 10 am Tuesday morning, I was satisfied. The town square had three archways finished and they were working on the fourth while we were there. They are too neat. Of course Micah had to get REAL close to it to check it out. I hear the antlers are pretty pointy in places! It was nice touch.
Sadly enough, I can't remember where this was taken. We saw so many things and put a lot of miles on that little car...It was just beautiful every direction.
Tuesday after lunch we were able to go white water rafting. Most of the time the wet suites are an additional $15. The day we rafted the water was 47 degrees or under so we 'had' to wear them. We were so glad. We didn't go under but we were soaked by the end of the rapids. that water was breath taking.
Our strong men (Karl and Micah) got to be in front for us and took on most of the water. They were amazing. It was so much fun. Definitely a must do...every time!
This bear was one that we could see. He was friendly enough for me....at this point we had not seen any moose, bears or elk...looking....looking.
Wednesday morning we headed over to Yellowstone. WOW. Go. Do it. Just go! Jennifer had her nice camera and took some really nice photos on our trip. These are the Teton Mountains.

On the way to Yellowstone, we got to see all kind of country and random hot air balloons. On our way, we saw some elk and some buffalo...way off in the distance.
But, once we were in Yellowstone....it was no different...where we were. We didn't get off of the beaten path. However we saw some amazing geysers...color beyond words.
Old Faithful says HI. Not a cold hi that would leave you to keep walking but a hot, steamy ~hi~ that makes you want to stop and see more.
This was one of my favorites geysers. It was so beautiful. It was huge. On one end of the geyser it was orange and then ended up with these vibrant colors of blue. Check out that picture and the sky as well.
Micah blowing off some steam...lol
look at that color!
Then we went a waterfall a huntin'.
On the way back to the cabin (after we were out of Yellowstone) we came across a stream of stopped cars and people running around like they were on fire. Little did we know we were within 200 yards of a momma grizzly and her three baby cubs. It was AWESOME. WOOHOO!
Then we were able to stop and allow these big ol' things to stop and cross. We saw a few crossing signs for animals and after we entered back into the Tetons we saw some really cool animals.
Thursday morning Karl and I decided to go paragliding. It was intense. Tyler was my guide/safe guard/motivator...he got me down safely. I enjoyed it. I don't know that I will do it again. It was super expensive for my taste. I am glad Karl and mom talked me into it. Karl actually told me to book two spots. I called him back and told him the price, he replied, "It's a one time deal. Do it."...(sigh). I did. Mom did her part in keeping me motivated to not back out. I am glad it did go through with it. Now I can say I did it.
There is my fearless man. He was super excited. He was so calm. I was not.
I was nervous, but worse...I had to go potty. I slipped and fell on the snow three times or so. But my nerves were much more settled after I saw anther woman (my size) take off and make it off the mountain ok. I knew if she could make it without falling in the trees my chances were better! Tyler was so sweet. He kept me calm and told me to look above the mountains and run for it. We did and we took off. It was super cook gliding through the air.
This is the person that went right before Karl. The view...the down hill slide. I just knew I was going to fall before he got me in the harness.
Karl landed about ten minutes before I did. Right after Karl took off, we had a lull. No wind, NO WIND. (Deep breath). Then here it comes. It was perfect. Our patience paid off. Count of three and run for the mountain tops. Keep your head up and just run. Tyler had to tell me to stop air running. We were the next to last to go and we had watched about twelve others go. So, on most of the last ones, he critiqued them and let me know what he did/did not like about the running, head movement...etc. Without a hitch, with the wind under us, we did it.
Micah and Jennifer took the safer route (for them...no way I am going to ride a horse for more than a few minutes and especially not outside of any fence...no thanks. I prefer the Suzuki Mule.).
That evening we had some time to chill and look around in town. We also chose to drive around to find that moose....we were determined.

We had found a heard of elk. They were a bit away but we got to see them.
This lone one we saw up close and personal. Although we thought we were going to get to stay the night with it...we took our little car off road...it did provide many laughs.

I know you can't tell what this is, but the four of us know it is a moose. We were able to find two of them in two different places. This one we got WAY too close to for my comfort. Micah and Karl were like a bunch of crazies out there walking through bush and trying to find ways to cross rivers. They are wild.
Micah's smile...all because we found a moose..
Every night in JH, they put on a western shoot out. It was so much fun. They cut it short on Thursday evening because of the weather. It was super cute.
Friday morning we had to be at the airport at 6 am to....WAIT until 8 pm to fly out. Our plane had mechanical difficulties (which we were very thankful to be safe on the ground rather than to find out later there were known issues).
Did you know that unions have "mandatory breaks"? Well we had a little lesson on unions Friday while at the airport. We were scheduled to fly out at 8:20 am. The part to fix our plane came in on the 2 pm flight (the only other flight in that day!). The plane was ready for flight around 3:45, but our crew had to go to the hotel and have a mandatory 4 hour rest time. ;) Needless to say, there were a LOT of grouchy people. The communication was horrible. For this reason (and some others...lol...Micah's Communication Song), I label this trip, "Communication, Jackson Hole"!
Jennifer was super excited when it was finally time for us to go! We made it home safe and sound!
Karl was ready to get home and see his boys. We played at Lyneil's the week before leaving for JH so Karl had seen the boys a total of two days (at the Zant Reunion) in a two week span. He was ready for some little boy lovin'. He did show his patience...wasn't a lot we could do but sit and wait. The nice thing about it was our plane went from over booked to less than half the seats. We were able to have our own rows as couples. That was a GREAT ending to our fun trip with the Fry's!
You need to go. If you have ever thought about it...and still want to experience it...DO IT!
We loved our trip. We are grateful to our parents for keeping our kids ALL week while we played. Every time I called home, mom assured me that she was having way more fun than we were! We are so thankful for good grandparents.
